Bonika International Shears

In addressing the needs of the stylist who cuts multicultural hair, we wanted to create shears that could cut very thick, coarse, curly hair. We knew if they could tackle this hair, they could handle all the other hair types.

To give strength for coarse, thick hair we made our blades of top stainless steel with the heavy metal molybdenum as an alloy. Then we heat treated it to a high Rockwell hardness.

To address curly and wavy hair we created the Bonika Tip. Have you ever chased the last piece of hair with your shears and wound up cutting your finger? We answered that problem with the innovative Bonika Tip. Even very curly hair is cut down to the last strand.

Then, to meet the demands of the professional marathon cutters, our handles are created ergonomically for a palm-to-palm cutting position. The Bonika International Shears are cast in Japan of top quality Molybedenum steel. Then, the smooth convex, hollow ground blades are triple hand honed here at our location on a waterstone for a smooth slide and effortless cut. As a result of our efforts we discovered the Bonika International performs well on all hair types and on commercial or weave hair as well.

The Story behind the Bonika International Shears
In 1996, Bonnie Megowan, the owner and founder of Bonika Shears worked as the scissor sharpener in the hair salon in the Olympic Village in Atlanta, Georgia. Four teams of stylists rotated 15 hour shifts cutting hair of athletes from every country in the world. Every hair texture and type was represented. Based on the knowledged gained in the cruicble of the Olympic Village, the Bonika International Shear was created.
