Men's Hairstyling and Beard Design
DVD or VHS 1-hour video takes you step-by-step, with 7 models, through:
1. Clipper-over-comb:This is a boy's free-hand haircut with clippers ending in a nice tapered neckline with short sides. At the end of this haircut Jim transitions immediately into the next cut, the "Flat Top", with the same subject.
2. Flat Top: Coming right off of the first haircut, Jim converts the cut to a crisp flat-top. He'll tell you which comb to use, and when. You'll learn how to hold the comb, and again which comb to use as you tighten the neckline.
3. A Razor cut on long hair (shaping) with beard trim. This cut starts with a young man's long, dark hair and beard. Jim gives a great razor cut, and shows you how to use the razor to get the hair to turn UNDER, rather than flip out. Then, using his clippers, Jim shows you how to trim a beard. He finishes the beard with good, clean lines....but you'll learn how to trim out the "blunt" lines often left in a beard trim.
4. Blending Shears: A Haircut (for thick hair) with natural, tapered neckline done entirely with blending shears. Here you'll see a young man with dark hair and mustache. Jim uses three combs with the shears and clippers as he thins, removes bulk, and tapers this hair. You'll learn how to get a good clean tapered neckline Jim gets by using skills and tools Jim demonstrates. You'll learn how to remove bulk from a thick head of hear and learn some great tips on working around ears. This is more good good use of clipper-over-comb, the Jim goes back to his blending shears. You'll see the RIGHT way to use blending shears on the ends of the hair, over a comb. The end shows you how to trim a Mustache using clipper-over-comb again.
5. Shears-over-comb haircut and beard trim: This mature man had his gray hair & beard cut too short on his last cut, and his barber gave him a block. Jim suceeds in taking out the block by tapering it out using shears-over-comb. You'll see Jim demonstrate that it's not always what you cut out that makes the difference: sometimes its what you leave in that counts. You will learn to tell where a beard trim line should be placed and how to use edge-layering as you trim a beard to take the blunt lines out. Then Jim moves on to trimming the hair using shears-over-comb, and finishes up with blending shears to take out the lines and even things out.
6. A boy's spike cut with lazer lines: This quick haircut is done for a younger boy. Jim shows you how to lift the hair using your comb then use your clippers to remove what you dont want. Jim shares the secret of a good spike: which direction to cut when you want to spike the hair. You'll learn about cutting against the texture of the hair and what to do with a double cowlick. Jim makes a hit with the little guy as he cuts in his laser lines and finishes them up using his edge-layering to take the bulk out of the lines. You'll see a good clean, cut with nice crisp lines at the end.
7. A boy's 'buzz' cut with lazer lines.A slightly-older boy comes next with nice dark hair. Jim give him a "buzz cut" with the clippers over comb, taking the hair down nice and close. You'll see a good, clean cut using different blade attachments and Jim will tell you when to change the attachments. You will learn how to taper properly by moving the clipper in the right directions. WHICH DIRECTIONS???. . . Watch & learn. Jim finishes this cut by rounding-off the corners. Then he textures the front before cutting in some more clean, crisp lazer lines.
8. Clipper-over-comb treatment for thinning hair, with beard trim: This is clipper-over-comb, finishing with blending shears & and a good beard trim. What does bulk in the back do to thinning hair? Makes the thinning hair look even thinner. Trimming up the beard, tapering the hair using the clippers-over-comb. Do you know the fastest way to cut hair? Jim Jones will tell you, and SHOW you in this video! *Note* Jim Jones requires your beauty license number.
