Over the years many myths or misconceptions have formed around the topic of hair. Some are obvious and humorous where others require a bit of research and thought. I have come across many and have divided them into 8 categories:
Part 1: Hair Growth
Part 2: Split Ends and Brushing/Combing
Part 3: Baldness/Hairloss and Gray Hair
Part 4: Texture, Dandruff, and Scalp Problems
Part 5: Short Hair and Coloring Your Hair
Part 6: Thin/Thinning Hair and Summer Hair
Part 7: Hair Products
Part 8: Shampooing and Misc.
Shampooing
You need to wash your hair everyday.
Everybody's hair is unique and has its own needs. One person may need to wash his/her hair daily, while the next person needs to shampoo his/her hair every other day. You need to do what works for you, what works best for your hair type and texture. If your scalp becomes oily or flaky, or if your hair looks greasy, shampoo it. Not only does it look and feel better, it's healthier for your hair. Do what works best for your hair.
Shampooing makes your hair less manageable.
Hairspray, mousse, gel, and even natural oil can help your hair stay right where you want it to. As soon as you wash these out, you start with a blank canvass, but that shouldn't be a problem. If your hair is less manageable after shampooing, then you could be fighting either a bad haircut, or you could be forcing your hair into a style that goes against your natural hairgrain or hair growth pattern. If it's a bad cut, go get it fixed up. If it's caused by fighting your natural hairgrain and it really bothers you, talk to your stylist about what style would work well with your natural hairgrain. Clean hair should be a pleasure to work with.
Misc.
We can make hair do whatever we want it to.
Your hair has a natural growth pattern, or hairgrain. Have you ever had a style where you had a great cut, but you still had to fight it every day to get it to look a certain way? You were probably fighting your natural hair growth pattern or the texture, most likely having to use a lot of gel, mousse, and hairspray. A little word of warning - if you continually bend the hair the opposite way it wants to go, it will be more than happy to fall out before it nautally would.
You have to be a naturally talented and creative person to be able to cut hair well.
You do not need any special talents in order to cut hair well. You merely need to be taught how. Once you learn how, you will enjoy it and save yourself and others around you money.
